Colleagues and friends at Bradbury were left deeply saddened by news of the death of Purchasing Manager, Jim Watt. Everyone’s thoughts are very much with his wife Julie and son Cameron for their unimaginable loss. Condolences and tributes flooded in for this popular member of the management team who was full of fun, never short of an encouraging word and totally dedicated to his work.

Jim passed away in his sleep after a brave battle against cancer. He fought the disease with his usual zest for life coming in to Bradbury at every possible opportunity throughout his long treatment; never once letting this interfere with his work or enthusiasm for the job.

Jim joined Bradbury in on the 21st July 2008 as Storeman but went on to play a key role in transitioning the business from a small grille company to the largest door manufacturer in the UK. Indeed many colleagues will remember Jim’s own transition from Storeman to Purchasing Manager when for a period of time it was necessary to cover both roles; jumping off the telephone in the front office where he ordered the stock and onto the forklift to unload it.

During this period Jim was joined by Purchasing Assistant Karen Heseltine and as the department evolved Nigel Ellis and Jack Lawson joined the team. Always the footballer at heart, Jim was an inspirational manager; a team player who led by example.  He drove a hard bargain with suppliers but was held in very high regard, with a large number wishing to pass on their condolences to Jim’s family and colleagues.

A former professional footballer, Jim’s passion for the great game was never far from the surface. As a United supporter he received much stick when arranging for the offices to be painted in Everton’s colours. Colleagues recall Jim’s pride in his Yorkshire roots and how anyone popping in to Bradbury on a Saturday morning might run in to Jim and labradoodle catching up on a busy week.

Jim’s hard work paid off. He developed Bradbury’s purchasing function into a department with a spend of over £8 million that kept pace and indeed contributed much to the rapid growth of the Bradbury Group over recent years. For those that had the pleasure to work with him, Jim Watt will be sadly missed and forever remembered.

Funeral Service

A funeral service will be held for Jim on Thursday 6th November at St Nicholas Church, Thorn, DN8 5NP starting at 2.30pm. For more information please speak to Sara Edenbrow at Bradbury Tel 01724 271999.

It’s very sad news that Jim has passed away following his illness. He was a nice chap; beneath his brash and direct manner he was kind, thoughtful and considerate.

I recall an occasion a few years ago when I was unloading a pallet with a fork lift truck. Observing my efforts Jim began shaking his head, then suggested seriously, that I might need to go for a refresher training course. Jim was ruthlessly honest and direct.

He could also ‘talk the hind legs off a donkey’! – Talking of donkey’s – Jim used to tell me (and everyone else) about his claim to fame, playing football in the 80’s for Arsenal reserves, mixing with the likes of Tony (‘Donkey’) Adams, ‘Rocky’ Roecastle and ‘Smudger’ Smith. – My footballing heroes from my early supporting days of Arsenal Football Club.

Jim would relay details of his playing days and insight at the club, in this respect he also became a hero of mine. I assumed that he would become a life-long Arsenal supporter, but disappointingly, he decided to follow Manchester United! - Oh well, I suppose nobody is perfect!

Me and Jim were ‘Team Yorkshire’ as we were the only Yorkshire employees at Bradbury. We would often slip into the Yorkshire dialect and everyone else would be scratching their heads and trying to decipher what we had just said.

Bye Eck Cock!

He always called me 'Gypsey' and I once let it slip to Jim that my family followed Chelsea FC. I certainly never heard the last of that!

Hi Nigel,

I am very sorry to hear the news about Jim.

I didn’t know him very well, although it was him who really got things going between Bradbury and Southern Ceramics in terms of purchasing, and for that I am very grateful.

Please accept our sincere condolences.

Good afternoon Nigel, may we offer our condolences to Jim Watts family and friends.

I am sure it must be a dark day at your Company today, as our dealings with Jim were always firm but fair, which would translate into wanting to make sure you did not let him down personally, which in turn made sure the Company he represented received the service they required. A gentleman.

We were all upset to hear the news today.

Best wishes
