Martin Roberts: Making Premium Doors for Half a Century

From humble beginnings to manufacturing and installing premium architectural doorsets in some of the world’s most iconic buildings, Martin Roberts has grown considerably over the last 48 years. The success of our projects has led to strong working relationships with the UK’s leading architects and main contractors, providing a fully coordinated design, manufacture, install and project management service. This has established Martin Roberts as a market leader in the manufacture and installation of premium architectural steel doorsets.

The business has been built on the foundations of manufacturing and delivering products of the highest quality. Martin Roberts was formed in 1972 by two well-respected door fitters, with surnames Martin and Roberts, after they realised they could create a higher quality product than the doors that they were being asked to install. The first Martin Roberts doorsets were manufactured in their garage in Kent, before the opening of a full production facility at the Sittingbourne Industrial Park.

Demand for their doorsets grew quickly as the reputation for their high-quality products spread.  After expanding to six units on Sittingbourne Industrial Park, Martin Roberts consolidated production to one premises in a new location in Sittingbourne. As the business developed and its reputation increased, Martin Roberts was awarded numerous prestigious accolades including the Queen’s Enterprise Award for Export, Interbuild Design Award, and the Building Innovation Award.

To increase the versatility of its product offering and meet multiple market requirements, Martin Roberts has established long-standing affiliations with various industry experts, such as @llgood, Allegion and Assa Abloy.

These partnerships have enabled Martin Roberts to provide a full suite of fire, acoustic and security solutions, from bespoke ironmongery and glazing options to different locking mechanisms, truly tailoring its product offering to any individual project or architectural vision.

2016 saw Martin Roberts become part of the award-winning steel door and physical security product manufacturer, Bradbury Group, which is renowned for its unbeatable lead times and mass manufacturing capability. This partnership compliments Martin Roberts’ respectable reputation for service excellence, delivery and project management.

Martin Roberts’ products are now manufactured at Bradbury Group’s state of the art, multi-million-pound production facility in Scunthorpe, allowing Martin Roberts to enhance its product quality and deliver unbeatable lead times to clients.

Martin Roberts continues its innovation of products, working with the Group’s engineering team to design and develop a range of superior quality steel doorsets, with innovative and inspiring buildings in mind.

Martin Roberts’ flagship product, the Capital45, is an architectural steel doorset which is bespoke-engineered to suit individual project requirements, with optional acoustic and or fire accreditations.

Martin Roberts continues to work with high-profile companies such as Mace, Sir Robert McAlpine, Balfour Beatty Construction, Portakabin, Kier, and Canary Wharf Group. These partnerships have resulted in Martin Roberts having a significant profile in London. Martin Roberts’ products can be seen in some of the capital’s most iconic buildings; the Gherkin, the Leadenhall Building, London Underground, St Pancras International, 20 Fenchurch Street (Walkie Talkie), Heathrow Terminals 5, One Hyde Park, and the House of Lords.

To date, Martin Roberts has installed a total of 14,000 doorsets within the Canary Wharf Estate. Since becoming part of Bradbury Group, over 1,700 Capital45 doors have been installed across three buildings at South Bank Place, One Bank Street and Newfoundland, complete with fire and acoustic accreditations.

Outside of London, Martin Roberts’ doorsets can be found in the Tate Modern in Liverpool, NEC, Birmingham, Imperial War Museum in Manchester, Trinity and Victoria Gate in Leeds, and Tesco stores nationwide. Martin Roberts has also established an international reputation too, particularly within the Middle and Far East markets.

Now, with almost half a century’s experience in manufacturing premium steel doorsets and building an extensive portfolio of high-profile projects, Martin Roberts doorsets are being installed in more locations than ever before.

Working with Bradbury Group’s other subsidiaries, we’re able to provide a full suite of fire, acoustic and security solutions that are tailored for any project you’re responsible for. These include security rated doors, flood defence doors, communal entrance doors, crowd control gates, kiosks, bar sets, grilles and cages.
