Marketing Apprentice

It’s National Apprenticeship Week, and Katie joined Bradbury as our first Marketing Apprentice one month ago! To mark this milestone, Katie has written about how she came to be an apprentice, and what her experience at Bradbury has been like so far.

My name’s Katie Harrison, I’m 21 years old, and I have recently started an advanced apprenticeship.

After leaving school in 2011, I attained A-Levels, and went to study Business and Management at university. However, I left within my first year as I soon realised that this degree wasn’t right for me. I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do, other than something more creative, so I decided to gain more work experience and qualifications, whilst deciding what career path I wanted to take.

 

Since leaving university in 2014, I have gained work experience in several sectors, such as Business Administration and Marketing, and completed the Prince’s Trust Team Programme. This all led to my decision to do an apprenticeship, rather than a degree, but there were no apprenticeships in the local area that appealed to me at the time.

In 2015, I enrolled at North Lindsey College on a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, whilst working part time at Debenhams. Through college, I discovered that Bradbury was looking to hire an apprentice for their Marketing department, which appealed to me because it combined the creative industry with the business industry. I applied for the position immediately and was successful!

I’m now working as a Marketing Assistant for Bradbury, whilst studying a Level 3 Diploma in Marketing through North Lindsey College. I believe that this apprenticeship is an ideal foundation of entry in to the Marketing sector, as it provides a dynamic variety of opportunities for progression.

Since starting at Bradbury, I’ve created posters, notices and images, designed the letterhead for Martin Roberts, posted on Bradbury and Cross-Guard’s social media, edited the website, written content for the blog, procured promotional merchandise, and, as part of National Apprenticeship Week, I took part in a social media takeover on North Lindsey College’s Twitter.

I’m really enjoying working for Bradbury, and I hope to continue working in the Marketing Department within the company after completing this apprenticeship, either in a permanent position or doing a higher apprenticeship.
