122 Leadenhall Street

122 Leadenhall Street is a 225m (737 ft.) tall building, constructed in London in 2014. The commercial skyscraper is informally known as “the Cheesegrater” due to its distinctive wedge shape. It is one of a number of new tall buildings recently completed, or currently under construction, in the City of London’s financial area, including 20 Fenchurch Street, 22 Bishopsgate, and The Scalpel.

The Challenge

Architects designing the Leadenhall Building required all internal steel doorsets to be of the highest aesthetic specification, as well as achieving fire and acoustic certification. With the high amount of footfall expected each year, the doors needed to seamlessly blend in with the appearance of the building, while withstanding the general wear and tear expected with everyday use.

The Solution

A total of 1,475 fire and acoustic performance doorsets were installed into 122 Leadenhall Street, during a project which spanned over two years. A fully equipped project management team were deployed to the site to oversee all works. This project allowed Martin Roberts Doors to prove their product offering could meet with the required levels of fire safety, as well as being highly durable and seamlessly integrating into the high-end appearance of the building.

Despite the large volume of doors, the sub-contract was completed on time to the complete satisfaction of both the main contractor and client.
